Greylisting is an email filtering technique used to reduce spam. When a message from an unfamiliar sender is received, the receiving server temporarily rejects it with a request to try again later. Legitimate mail servers will typically resend the message, while many spam servers will not, allowing the system to identify and block potentially harmful or unsolicited emails.
