Microsoft 365 (Office 365) with Post SMTP

Estimated reading: 4 minutes 21174 views

Post SMTP Pro offers seamless integration with Microsoft 365, formerly known as Office 365, for secure and fast email delivery. Microsoft 365 provides a 30-day free trial for new users. However, it is recommended that users use email addresses that have a license assigned to them (which could be Business Basic, Standard, Premium, or E1, E3, E5) to avoid any setbacks.

Post SMTP Installation:

Office 365 socket is part of the Post SMTP Pro plan. If you don’t have a Pro plan, you can explore our different plans and subscribe to the one that suits you best. Once you have subscribed to Post SMTP Pro, download & install the plugin using the Installation & Activation guide.

Azure Setup:

Let’s set up an application in the Azure Portal. To do that, log in to your Azure Portal using the same email address that you will use to configure Post SMTP.

  • Once you are logged in, you will be able to see this screen.
  • Click on App Registrations or search App Registrations from the search bar. You will be redirected to the App Registrations page.
  • On the App Registrations page, click on New Registration. You will be directed to the Register an Application page.
  • On the Register an Application page, fill out the details, like,
Name: This is a required field that allows the user to identify the specific application; the name can be of any random nature.

Supported account types: For configuration with Post SMTP, it is necessary to select Accounts in any organizational directory (Any Azure AD directory – Multitenant) and personal Microsoft accounts (e.g., Skype, Xbox)

Redirect URI: It is essential to select the web from the drop-down menu before copying and pasting the Redirect URI from the Post SMTP wizard into this field.
  • Once you have filled out all the fields, click the Register button in the bottom right corner. Your application is successfully registered, and you will be directed to the Application page. Copy and paste the Application (Client) ID somewhere for later use.
  • To generate Client Value, go to Certificates & Secrets under Manage and click on New Client Secret.
  • Add Client Secret window prompt on the right side of the screen, fill out the details, like,

Description: This is a required field; the description can be of any random nature.

Expires: We recommend selecting an expiry of 24 months.
  • Once you have filled out all the fields, click on the Add button. Your Client Value is successfully generated.

Be sure to copy and paste it somewhere safe for later use, as it only appears once and is then permanently blurred out.

You have successfully created an App in Azure, now head over to Post SMTP for the configuration process.

Configuring Post SMTP:

Head over to your WordPress admin site.

  • Go to Post SMTP> Extensions, activate the Office 365 module, and click on the Save & Continue button.
  • Go to the Post SMTP Dashboard and click on ‘Setup the Wizard’.
  • In the Mailer Settings, enter From Email (should be the same email address used to log in to the Azure Portal) & From Name.

Note : Turn on “Prevent plugins and themes from changing this” to stop other plugins or themes from overriding this field.

Redirect URI is automatically generated by plugin & cannot be modified. Its sole purpose is to copy & paste it into Azure Application Registration form.

To add Redirect URI in Azure Application, Go to Azure> App Registrations> {application in question}> Manage> Authentication. Click on Add URI and paste the copied URI and hit save.

  • Grant Permission.
  • Once it says  “The OAuth 2.0 authorization was successful. Ready to send email” Office 365 is connected to Post SMTP. Click the Save & Continue button.
  • Enter Recipient Email Address and click on Send Test Email.
  • Your email is successfully delivered, click on Finish button to end the wizard.

You have successfully configured Post SMTP with Microsoft 365. You can view the details of the sent email by navigating to the Email Log.
