A Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) is software responsible for sending and routing email between servers. It receives messages from a Mail User Agent (MUA) or another MTA, then determines the best path to deliver them to the recipient’s mail server. Common MTAs include Postfix, Sendmail, and Microsoft Exchange.
